Griffiths Island Lighthouse

One of Griffiths Islands most visible pieces of history is the lighthouse. It was originally painted Red but underwent a change in the 1950s to its current color scheme.

Originally installed  in 1859 the Lighthouse is 12.5m high with vision for 17km.

It was was constructed by Burmingham company Chance Brothers and installed with FRESNAL LAMPS.

The light was fueled with oxyacetylene since 1915 and automated in 1926 to a modern electric lamp.

The tower has spiral steps leading up to the light and tours are run on some event weekends in Port Fairy allowing people to cling the tower and take in the view.
